A marche forcée

While the entire world celebrates the miracle of the new China, fully integrated in the market economy, three-quarters of Chinese farmers survive below the poverty line and have no other choice than to migrate illegally inside their own country. They are exploited thousands miles away from home in deadly coal mines or in global workshops, and they flee from their countryside, which has been devastated by industrial pollution and where people die in silence.

After his series on hospitals, schools, police and prisons, Samuel Bollendorff focused his camera on China and its forced march towards a buoyant and carried-away global economy.
